If DVDs (of
Charlie and Lola, for instance) are too retro for your tastes, you’ll be glad to hear a bit of news about the latest, hippest online streaming video/VOD offering in the world of children’s media. That’s
Underdog (actually originally
The Underdog Show), which has been acquired by Kabillion and began airing online on August 7.

Underdog went on the air on October 3, 1964 on NBC and ran for nine years, putting 124 episodes under its belt. (To put that in perspective, the show began twenty-two years after Mighty Mouse first appeared in theaters and only three years after
Rocky and Bullwinkle aired on television.) It’s been around ever since, of course, in the form of reruns, Halloween costumes (that I remember from my own childhood in the 80s), and so forth. But this is the first time it’s completely available online. I don’t think Kabillion is making all 124 episodes available all at once, but if you keep checking back there’s sure to be lots to see.
Kabillion’s
Underdog page is available
here. There are lots of DVD compilations, including three “Ultimate Collection” sets that were released last year, which you can see on Amazon
here,
here, and
here. At $8.49 each that’s quite a value. Here's a pretty extensive
fan website and here's a sample of some footage on
YouTube.
