Dade Hayes (more on his new book soon) wrote an article in yesterday's Variety that started to shed some light for me on the business of children's music. For one thing, while the rest of the music industry is going belly-up in the face of iTunes and online distribution, kids' music is still doing relatively strong. Again, it's a topic about which I don't really know very much yet, but when Loretta saw this picture of Laurie Berkner she got excited and started romping around the room, singing, "We are the dinosaurs marching marching." (Right now she's taking a "grown-up shower" and still going strong.) So there's something right going on there from the label Razor & Tie's perspective.
